My first time making Supernatural Brownies… What a difference. A lot of melted butter, melted chocolate, and sugar…

You can definitely see the difference between Supernatural brownies and regular brownies made with cocoa powder. Superb.

These are for those of you who like super fudgy brownies. Nothing cake-like about them.

Supernatural Brownies
2 sticks unsalted butter, each cut into thirds
8 ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, broken into pieces
4 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour

One 13x9x2-inch pan, buttered

Set the rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees.

Combine the butter and chocolate in a heat proof bowl and microwave in intervals of 30 seconds or so, until melted (stir in between heatings).

Whisk eggs together in a large bowl, then whisk in the salt, sugars, and vanilla. Stir in the chocolate and butter mixture, then fold in the flour.

Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for about 45 minutes, until top has formed a shiny crust. Cool in pan, or enjoy hot from the oven.

I don’t know if you remember this (if there is a you reading this out there…) but I made black-bottom cupcakes back in June when my cousins were staying at my house, and I screwed them up by just putting the cream cheese filling on top by assuming it would sink (I failed physics by the way).

It’s usually rare for me to come back to a recipe I’ve screwed up before, but these cupcakes got compliments from my cousins on the taste test if not in the looks department so I made them again. And I’m glad I did! Aren’t they cute?

But what is the occasion you ask? (Considering I told myself I would cut down on the baking while I’m on a diet and making a sad attempt to be a better student.)

Today is our first junior accountability for KCM (Korean Campus Mission) and my roommate Eunice who is junacc leader asked me to bake for the first meeting of the year…. But what should I bake?????

A bunch of them went to Diddy Riese last night so no chocolate-chip cookies or anything….

Chocolate cake plus cheesecake? Are you kidding me? Those are like the two best classic desserts ever that almost everyone I know likes or at least doesn’t hate. Put together? In one?

I made these and some strawberry shortbread bars because they both involve few bowls and can be made fairly quickly with ingredients on hand. I whipped them up yesterday (do not know HOW I found the time..) and then sat down and worked on a bookkeeping problem for almost five hours.

Scream.

Le sigh.

Oh well. Maybe I’ll eat a cupcake to make myself eat better.
